Since many of our lives have slowed down since "quarantimes" have begun, Margot and I have found ourselves with a lotttt of extra time on our hands. One of my favorite ways to show myself some extra love is through skincare, which I might even take a little toooo seriously! See below for my favorite products - including everything from my go-to CBD oil and PJs - that I'm using now more than ever!
I have normal/dry and very sun-sensitive skin, so these are my favorite products that I use everyday! We all have unique skin needs, so they may not be the best options for you... make sure to read Margot's post for oily/combination skin concerns!
Morning
Cleanse with water only (to avoid stripping moisture from nighttime routine!)
Serums (The Ordinary "Buffet" & Sephora Vitamin C & E)
Lightweight gel moisturizer (Clinique)
Lather on SPF (The Algenist, Supergoop or Murad with Fresh lip balm)
Makeup (I just ordered Ilia's super serum skin tint with bonus SPF!)
Night
Micellar water to remove makeup
Moisturizing cleanser (Shea Moisture coconut oil)
AHA BHA exfoliator (Dr. Dennis Gross or The Ordinary)
Serums (The Ordinary Retinoid & Hyaluronic Acid)
Cream moisturizer (Fresh or Kiehl's) OR an overnight moisturizing mask (Laneige water & lip mask / Kiehl's ultra facial mask)
Lightweight oil (to seal in all moisture!) (The Ordinary Squalane or Rosehip oil)
Extras
Acne spot treatments (I've used a combination of 2% salicylic acid & 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treatments from drugstores since I was a teenager and have found this works well on breakouts for me!)
Gua Sha (I'm obsessed with using a gua sha tool for lymphatic drainage when my face feels puffy -- I'm using mine in quarantine more than ever! Try keeping it in the fridge for an extra cooling sensation.)
Self tanner (For face, I mix a few drops of Isle of Paradise in light with my morning moisturizer. For body, I use St. Tropez express tanner with a washable mitt, but am looking to try a clear, color-less formula when I purchase next because I want to avoid getting the residue from the guide color on my sheets and clothes)
Eye treatments (I'm still looking for my perfect eye cream... but these 24K gold eye lift treatments are fun before special occasions)
Like pretty much every millennial girl, assorted face masks have become synonymous with "self care" for me. I've tried and liked these: Summer Fridays / Lancôme Hydrogel / Dr. Jart Ceramidin (for intense hydration) / Summer Fridays / Fresh rose mask.
If you couldn't tell by my favorite products, I'm obsessed with the whole line of The Ordinary products... they're affordable (almost all their serums are $6.80/oz!), non-irritating, and great quality, so you can target a range of skincare concerns on a budget. A great place to start with their products is the No Brainer set, which includes the "Buffet" serum (for morning & night), a non-irritating Retinoid suspension serum (which is always sold out as a solo product on Sephora), and a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. Did I mention it's only $29?
Other self-care essentials
Canapa CBD
When I'm looking to decompress and de-stress, I love taking CBD for its (reported) anti-inflammatory benefits. It's seriously helped ward off my "Sunday Scaries," hangovers, and headaches. There are a myriad of CBD products on the market these days, but my brand of choice is Canapa (@getcanapa), which is ethically sourced, female-founded, and featured in Vogue. The real selling point for me is that these products are 100% clean, with no additives that may make you feel worse in the long-run. I can't live without the full spectrum oil & water-soluble drops.
Supplements & Diet
An essential part of skincare is being mindful of what you're putting in your body... this means making sure to drink plenty of water, sticking to whole foods with plenty of fiber, and getting your beauty rest! In addition to this, Margot and I both have seen improvement in our overall skin/hair/nail quality from taking biotin and collagen supplements.
Collagen peptides (Nordstrom/Amazon) / Apple Cider Vinegar gummies (Amazon) / Biotin gummies (Amazon)
Cute PJs
Okaaaay so this may not be immediately necessary for skincare or even self-care, but for me, there's really no better feeling than wearing a cute set of matching pajamas to bed at night. What better way is there to feel like an actual adult?! Here are some of my favs for under $50!
Nordstrom: Satin short robe ($48) / Pattern short satin pjs ($34) / Satin lace pjs ($36) / Pink lace chemise ($32)
Target: Soft short sleeve collared pjs ($22 - available in black, grey, navy, and pink!)
